Bloggers’ Quilt Festival

Hello and welcome! Glad to see you! I’ll put the kettle on. Chocolate cake ok?

It’s time for the Blogger’s Quilt Festival again, and I am entering Juicy Fruit into the two-colour quilt category. Sorry if you’ve seen it before, but I think it’s really pretty so I hope you will forgive me.

This quilt was a real labour of love. The central panel is made entirely from 3″ and 1.5″ half square triangles. I slapped them up on the design wall without thinking about how they would have to be stitched together, with the result that there were approximately eleventy billion partial seams to negotiate. I made a gif of it being sewn together. What this doesn’t show is how much swearing was involved.

Then I decided that what it really needed was some 3/4″ HSTs in the low-volume border. Unfortunately, this was after I had attached most of it (complete with the requisite bajillion partial seams). There may have been more swearing at this point. It’s also possible that this explains why I didn’t make the top any larger. It finished up at 45 x 50 inches, but I am short so I don’t mind too much.

I am especially proud of the circle quilting. I’d initially wanted to hand quilt with perle but there were so many seams that it would have been a total nightmare. In the end, I used five shades of size 16 perle cotton in my machine – it works perfectly in the bobbin and as the top thread. Give it a try sometime. I would *almost* go so far as to say it’s life-changing.

So there you have it. One very happy, shiny, bright, juicy quilt. Thanks for popping by!
